PinkPantheress began her musical journey in high school, initially composing tunes to assist a friend before venturing into creating her own music. At 17, she delved into using GarageBand to craft instrumentals for fellow singer Mazz, and later utilized the platform to record many of her early tracks while tucked away in her university dorm at late hours. Initially, her original songs as PinkPantheress on SoundCloud didn’t attract much attention. However, a video she posted on her personal TikTok in December 2020 received over 500,000 likes, prompting her to post a snippet of her song “Just a Waste” as PinkPantheress, leading to its viral success on the platform.
“Pain” and “Break It Off” by PinkPantheress gained traction on TikTok in early 2021, with the latter reaching No. 35 on the UK Singles Chart in August that year. Her signing to Parlophone in April 2021 was followed by a feature on GoldLink‘s track “Evian” from his album “Haram!“.
Subsequently, her snippet of “Just for Me” caught attention on TikTok, leading to its release in August 2021, accompanied by a co-directed music video. This track peaked at No. 27 on the UK Singles Chart, resulting in iHeartRadio Music Award and NME Award nominations for PinkPantheress.
The debut mixtape, “To Hell with It,” released on October 15, 2021, debuted at No. 20 on the UK Albums Chart. The mixtape featured earlier singles such as “Pain,” “Break It Off,” and “Just for Me,” alongside tracks like “Passion” and “I Must Apologise.”
In January 2022, PinkPantheress won the BBC‘s Sound of 2022 poll. The same month, she unveiled a remix album for “To Hell with It” and received a Brit Award nomination for Song of the Year. She appeared on Mura Masa‘s “Bbycakes” and dropped “Where You Are” featuring Willow in April 2022, setting off on a European tour. She performed on Halsey‘s Love and Power Tour and collaborated with Beabadoobee on “Tinkerbell is Overrated” before cancelling her appearance at the Primavera Sound festival due to hearing loss.
August 2022 saw the release of “Picture in My Mind” featuring Sam Gellaitry, followed by the EP “Take Me Home” in December 2022. Her collaboration with Skrillex and Trippie Redd on “Way Back” was included in Skrillex’s album the next month. PinkPantheress joined forces with Ice Spice for the remix of “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” in February 2023, a track that gained popularity on TikTok and charted high, marking her debut on the Billboard Hot 100. “Angel” for the Barbie film soundtrack was released in June 2023, followed by “Turn Your Phone Off” and a feature on Troye Sivan‘s “Rush” remix in August 2023.
Her debut album, “Heaven Knows,” was announced in October 2023, with its release on November 10. Leading singles included “Mosquito” and “Capable of Love.” The “Capable of Love” Tour was announced for the UK and Europe, later extending to North America, featuring Bktherula and Kanii at select venues. PinkPantheress is also slated to open for Olivia Rodrigo‘s Guts World Tour in the summer of 2024.
