In 2012, he joined David Hyde Pierce and Sigourney Weaver in Christopher Durang‘s “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike“, premiering at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey, before transferring to Lincoln Center in New York City. The production later moved to the John Golden Theatre, earning six Tony Award nominations, including one for Magnussen as Best Featured Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Spike. In 2014, he starred off-Broadway with Anna Gunn in the well-received production of “Sex with Strangers” directed by David Schwimmer at the Second Stage Theater.

Magnussen’s film credits include appearances in “Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet” (2009) and “Happy Tears” (2009), featuring Demi Moore and Parker Posey. He took on the role of Claude in “Twelve”, released on July 30, 2010.
